  • Equine Health and Emergency First Aid Training Course

    This is a one-day hands-on course with horses covering: what your vet needs to know when you call, conditioning a horse to accept treatment, taking proper vital signs, dealing with lacerations, punctures, colic, choke, collapse, casting, shock, hoof issues, recognizing pain in the horse, sources of pain and alleviation, spinal health, injury prevention, and so much more!

    Online course begins August 1. Hands-on experience August 16th.

  • Advanced Equine First Aid Training

    Plan, prepare, react to any emergency! Join us for a one-day highly advanced equine emergency first aid course and learn what to do in more extreme situations.

    This course covers everything from assessing the condition of a horse, trapped horses, poison, burns, bites, hypo-hyperthermia, tie ups, fractures, sucking chest wounds and more. It prepares the student to handle the most serious injuries, where without human intervention, the horse will not survive.

    Equine Health and Emergency First Aid training course is required. You must sign up for that class at the same time that you sign up for this advanced class.

  • CTRI Educational Workshop

    The Red Barn is hosting an IN-PERSON, HANDS-ON educational workshop on August 18-20 for those preparing for certification as a PATH Intl Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor/CTRI. This workshop will also provide CTRI mentors with information to help them better understand where their IIT will benefit from their guidance. It will also be helpful for experienced instructors seeking tune ups in their riding instruction and communication skills and/or opportunities for “Continuing Education” to maintain their PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) status.

  • When: August 18-20, 2021

    Schedule:
    Day 1, Wednesday August 18; 1p-5p
    Day 2, Thursday August 19; 9a-12n, 1p-5p
    Day 3, Friday August 20; 9a-12n, 1-5p

  • Workshop Includes:

    Review:
    - The CTRI Process/Roadmap including terminology
    - The CTRI Criteria including why each area is important for therapeutic instructors to be competent in, suggestions on where to learn more about each areas, and how & when applicants need to demonstrate competency.
    - The CTRI Application - A walk-through of all parts of the process including what experience and knowledge applicants need to acquire for each part, and the role of the mentor.

    Education and hands-on experience in:
    - Riders – disabilities, contraindications and precautions, rider assessments and goals
    - Equines - selecting equines for lesson program, warming up & assessing equine behavior/soundness before lesson, * covers some topics included in Part 2 of the CTRI Application
    - Volunteers – how to utilize, engage, and retain volunteers through instruction, support and progression.
    - Mounts and Dismounts
    - Lesson Plans & Objectives
    - Lesson Execution – best practices for safety and rider progression
    - PATH standards as related to lessons and sample forms

    Role-played lesson scenarios for:
    - Riding Instruction & Communication of Riding Skills (Part 3 of the Application Process)
    - Therapeutic Riding Lesson (putting what was learned above into practice)

  • Continuing Education Hours:

    This workshop will offer 18 Continuing Education hours to attendees, including 2.5 DE hours and 1 CR-Riding. This workshop is NOT REQUIRED for certification as a PATH Intl Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI).

  • Cost:

    The workshop is limited to no more than 10 attendees. The cost is $400 for reservations made before July 15th and $500 for reservations made after July 15th.
